How to Replace an Audi keyless go G28 Engine Speed Sensor

suzuki-logo.jpgCharles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control fuel and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference replacement key for audi a3 comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It's a bit tricky to test because there are different pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms if the sensor is in full operation. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a significant reduction in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got zero Ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. But i am afraid I may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80 100, 200, audi advanced key car key cover (minecraftcommand.science) UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). If you experience any of these issues it is most likely that your sensor is deteriorating and needs replacing. The good news is that they are very affordable and easy to find, especially when you're looking at a Bosch unit like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this component is an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the cause of many issues in your car. It's an essential component of the audi tt key's transmission as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It transmits signals via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. It should show approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins.
